Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free all-purpose flour blend for gluten-free option)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • Chocolate kisses (one for each bar piece)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven and Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking, ensuring even baking and easy removal of the bars later.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and peanut butter until smooth and fluffy. Add the granulated sugar and brown sugar, then beat until light and creamy. Incorporate the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well to combine all flavors.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the peanut butter mixture, stirring just until incorporated. Be careful not to overmix to keep the bars tender.
  4. Spread Batter and Bake: Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan about half an inch thick. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  5. Add Chocolate Kisses: Remove the bars from the oven and immediately press a chocolate kiss into the center of each square. The warmth of the bars will slightly melt the chocolate, creating the signature Peanut Butter Blossom look.
  6. Cool and Cut: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, lift them out using the parchment paper and cut into squares. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients: softened butter and egg mix better for a smooth batter.
  • Do not overmix: stir just until combined to avoid tough bars.
  • Press chocolate kisses gently to prevent bars from cracking.
  • Try crunchy peanut butter for extra texture.
  • Let bars cool fully before cutting to avoid crumbling.
