Dough Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
Filling
- 1 cup Nutella (or substitute)
Whipped Frosting
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ⅓ cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Prepare the Dough: Warm the milk slightly and stir in the active dry yeast. Let it activate for about 5 minutes until foamy. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and softened butter. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
- Roll Out and Spread Nutella: Once the dough has risen, lightly flour a surface and roll the dough out into a large rectangle approximately ¼ inch thick. Spread a generous layer of Nutella evenly over the surface, leaving a small border around the edges to prevent filling from oozing out.
- Roll and Slice: Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Using a sharp knife, slice the log into rolls about 1 to 1.5 inches thick. Arrange the slices spaced apart in a greased baking pan.
- Second Rise and Bake: Cover the pan and let the rolls rise again for 30 to 45 minutes until puffy. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown on top and fully cooked.
- Whip the Frosting: While the rolls bake, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract using a mixer until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to overwhip to avoid graininess or separation.
- Frost and Serve: After the rolls have cooled slightly (about 10 minutes), spread or pipe the whipped frosting generously on top. Serve warm or at room temperature for the perfect balance of fluffy dough, rich Nutella, and airy frosting.
Notes
- Always ensure your yeast is fresh for best rising results.
- Use room temperature milk and butter to improve dough texture.
- Leave a small border when spreading Nutella to prevent oozing during baking.
- Do not overwhip the cream to keep frosting smooth and stable.
- Allow rolls to cool slightly before frosting to prevent frosting from melting.
