Mini Meatball Puff Pastries

Mini Meatball Puff Pastries are bite-sized snacks featuring juicy, flavorful meatballs wrapped in flaky, buttery puff pastry. Easy to prepare and customizable with various seasonings and fillings, they are perfect for parties, quick snacks, or cozy nights in. Golden-baked with a crispy crust and optionally filled with cheese or marinara sauce, these pastries delight with every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Meatball Mixture

  • 1 lb ground meat (beef, pork, chicken, or turkey)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian herbs (dried oregano, basil, thyme mix)
  • ½ cup grated cheese (optional; mozzarella, cheddar, or parmesan)

Pastry

  • 1 package store-bought puff pastry sheets (thawed according to package instructions)
  • 1 beaten egg (for egg wash)

Optional Additions

  • Marinara sauce (for adding inside pastries)
  • Red pepper flakes or chopped jalapeños (for spicy version)
  • Fresh herbs (basil, oregano, parsley, finely chopped)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine ground meat with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, Italian herbs, and grated cheese if using. Mix gently but thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Form Mini Meatballs: Using hands or a small scoop, roll the meat mixture into bite-sized meatballs about 1 inch in diameter to fit perfectly inside the puff pastry squares.
  3. Cook the Meatballs: Heat a skillet over medium heat and lightly brown the meatballs on all sides, turning carefully. Do not fully cook them as they will finish baking inside the pastries.
  4. Prepare Puff Pastry: Thaw puff pastry sheets according to package instructions. Cut into small squares large enough to completely envelop one meatball.
  5. Assemble the Puff Pastries: Place one meatball on each pastry square. Optionally add a spoonful of marinara sauce or extra cheese on top. Fold the pastry over the meatball and seal edges firmly using a fork or your fingers.
  6. Egg Wash and Bake: Brush each assembled pastry with beaten egg to ensure a beautiful golden crust. Bake on a lined sheet pan at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes or until pastries are puffed and golden brown.

Notes

  • Don’t overfill the pastries to avoid bursting during baking.
  • Chill assembled pastries in the refrigerator for 10 minutes before baking to help maintain their shape.
  • Keep puff pastry cold until just before use for maximum flakiness.
  • Seal edges well with a fork and egg wash to prevent filling leakage.
  • Watch baking time carefully to avoid burning; oven temperatures may vary.
