Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour
  • ¾ cup Warm Milk (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 2 ¼ tsp Active Dry Yeast (1 packet)
  • ¼ cup Granulated Sugar
  • ¼ cup Butter, softened
  • 1 large Egg
  • ½ tsp Salt

Filling Ingredients

  • ¼ cup Butter, softened
  • ½ cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Ground Cinnamon

Glaze (optional)

  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 2 oz Cream Cheese, softened (optional)
  • 23 tbsp Milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Warm the milk until cozy to the touch (not hot). Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the warm milk and let it bloom for 5 to 10 minutes until frothy. In a large bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, salt, and softened butter. Beat in the egg, then pour in the yeast mixture and stir until a sticky dough forms.
  2. Knead and Let Rise: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 6 to 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm spot for 45 to 60 minutes until doubled in size.
  3. Roll Out the Dough: Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a 12×16 inch rectangle. Spread softened butter evenly over the surface, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly on top.
  4. Shape the Rolls: Starting from the long edge, roll the dough into a tight log. Cut the log into 12 even pieces and place them in a greased baking dish, leaving space between each roll.
  5. Second Rise and Bake: Cover the rolls and let them rise for 20 to 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Add the Icing: While baking, prepare a glaze with powdered sugar, cream cheese (optional), and milk. Once baked, drizzle the glaze generously over warm cinnamon rolls for creamy, irresistible goodness.

Notes

  • Keep milk warm, not hot, to activate yeast effectively.
  • Use softened butter (not melted) for spreading to avoid soggy dough.
  • Roll dough firmly but gently to create compact cinnamon layers.
  • Leave space between rolls in pan for even baking and expansion.
  • Remove rolls from oven when golden but still soft to retain gooey texture.
