Baked Shrimp Toast

Crispy, flavorful, and easy to make, Baked Shrimp Toast is a delightful appetizer featuring tender shrimp spread on toasted bread, seasoned with garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and green onions. Perfect for quick snacks, parties, or a comforting homemade treat, this healthier baked alternative delivers a perfect balance of textures and savory flavors in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • Fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined – about 8 oz (225 g)
  • Bread slices (white or whole wheat, firm) – 6 to 8 slices
  • Green onions, finely chopped – 2 stalks
  • Garlic, minced – 2 cloves
  • Fresh ginger, grated – 1 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce – 1 tablespoon
  • Egg white – 1
  • Sesame seeds (optional) – 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shrimp Mixture: Finely chop the shrimp or pulse briefly in a food processor until coarse paste forms. In a bowl, combine the shrimp paste with minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped green onions, soy sauce, and egg white. Mix thoroughly until well incorporated; the egg white helps bind the mixture.
  2. Prepare the Bread: Cut bread into 2 to 3 inch triangles or rectangles. Lightly toast the bread pieces in the oven or on a pan just to crisp the edges, which prevents sogginess when topped.
  3. Assemble the Toasts: Spread a generous but even layer of the shrimp mixture onto each bread piece, avoiding overly thick layers for even cooking. Optionally, sprinkle sesame seeds or shredded cheese on top for added flavor and texture.
  4. Bake to Perfection: Arrange the prepared toasts on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 12–15 minutes until the shrimp topping is cooked through, golden brown, and the bread is crisp.

Notes

  • Use fresh shrimp for best texture and flavor.
  • Don’t overload the bread with shrimp mixture to avoid sogginess.
  • Pre-toast bread lightly to maintain crispiness.
  • Watch the oven closely in the last minutes to prevent burning.
  • Adjust soy sauce, garlic, and ginger seasonings to your preference.
  • Leftovers keep for up to 2 days refrigerated; reheat in oven to restore crispiness.
  • You can freeze unbaked assembled toasts and bake directly from frozen with extra time.
  • For gluten-free option, use gluten-free bread.
