Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Filling

  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for sautéing)

Wonton Shells

  • 20 wonton wrappers
  • Vegetable oil, for frying (enough to maintain 350°F / 175°C)

Slaw and Sauce

  • 2 cups coleslaw mix
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp sriracha sauce (plus extra for drizzling)

Garnishes (Optional)

  • Chopped green onions
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Cut chicken breast into small bite-sized pieces. Season with garlic powder, soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Sauté in a skillet over medium heat with vegetable oil until fully cooked and golden brown, about 6 to 8 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Make the Slaw: In a bowl, combine coleslaw mix, chopped green onions, mayonnaise, and sriracha sauce. Toss until the slaw is creamy and evenly coated while retaining its crunch.
  3. Crisp the Wonton Shells: Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or saucepan to 350°F (175°C). Carefully fold wonton wrappers into a taco shape and fry until golden and crisp, about 1 to 2 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  4. Assemble the Tacos: Fill each crispy wonton shell generously with cooked chicken. Top with a scoop of the creamy slaw. Drizzle with extra sriracha mayo or your preferred sauce to finish.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped green onions or cilantro over the tacos. Serve immediately to maintain crispness, optionally adding lime wedges on the side for brightness.

Notes

  • Use fresh wonton wrappers for the best crispiness and to avoid excess oil absorption.
  • Maintain oil temperature at 350°F (175°C) to ensure crisp and non-greasy shells.
  • Prepare the slaw a few hours ahead to allow flavors to meld while keeping the cabbage crunchy.
  • Use a thermometer to verify chicken is cooked through but remains juicy.
  • Assemble tacos just before serving to prevent wonton shells from becoming soggy.
